🌿 Plectranthus Main Street Franklin Street Care Guide
Plectranthus ‘Main Street Franklin Street’ is a lovely foliage plant with a naturally full, spreading habit and the kind of character that makes you want to keep it where you can see it. Its softly textured foliage and vigorous growth give it plenty of presence without needing to be treated like a greenhouse diva.
Give it good light, let the compost dry slightly between drinks and keep it growing through the warmer months, and it should reward you with plenty of fresh growth.
☀️ Light
- Give it plenty of bright, filtered light for strong, compact growth.
- Gentle morning sunshine is welcome, but protect it from intense afternoon rays through glass.
- Good light is particularly useful for maintaining a dense, attractive shape.
- If the stems start becoming long and sparse, move it somewhere brighter.
💧 Water
- Water when the upper portion of the soil has dried out rather than keeping it constantly moist.
- Give the plant a thorough drink, allowing excess water to escape through the drainage holes.
- Empty any water left sitting in the outer pot or saucer.
- During autumn and winter, allow the soil to dry further between waterings as growth slows.
🌫️ Humidity
- Normal household humidity is usually suitable.
- It appreciates a reasonably well-ventilated position rather than sitting in stagnant, overly humid conditions.
- There is no need to mist the foliage regularly.
- Avoid positioning it directly beside a radiator or another strong source of dry heat.
🍽️ Feeding
- Feed during spring and summer when the plant is actively producing new growth.
- Use a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser approximately every 3–4 weeks.
- Reduce feeding during the cooler, darker months.
- If you’ve recently repotted into fresh soil, give the plant some time before starting a regular feeding routine.
🌱 Quick Tips
- Choose a free-draining houseplant soil and always use a pot with drainage.
- Pinch or prune the growing tips to encourage a fuller, bushier plant.
- Don’t be afraid to trim back leggy growth; Plectranthus responds well to regular shaping.
- Rotate the pot occasionally so growth develops evenly.
- Keep an eye on the soil rather than following a strict watering calendar.
- Bright light and sensible watering are the two things I’d get right first.
💡 Big Plant Lad Wisdom
Oh, this is one of those plants that starts off looking innocent… and then suddenly you’ve got a much fuller plant than you remember buying. Give it a trim and it’ll usually come back looking even better.
