🌿 Monstera Laniata Mint Variegated Care Guide

Monstera Laniata Mint Variegated is the sort of plant that makes you stop halfway past a shelf and turn around for another look. Its elongated green leaves develop fenestrations as they mature, while soft mint-green variegation runs through the foliage in beautifully unpredictable patterns.

As a climbing Monstera, it appreciates something to grow up rather than simply being left to sprawl. Give it warmth, good light and something sturdy to climb, and those leaves can become increasingly impressive as the plant matures.

☀️ Light

  • Give it plenty of bright, filtered light throughout the day.
  • A bright room close to a window is ideal, with a sheer curtain if the sunlight becomes intense.
  • Avoid harsh, prolonged afternoon sun directly onto the foliage, particularly the paler mint sections.
  • Too little light can slow growth and may reduce the contrast and development of new foliage.
  • Rotate the plant occasionally so growth stays balanced rather than leaning heavily towards the window.

💧 Water

  • Water when the upper few centimetres of the soil have started to dry.
  • Give the plant a thorough drink, allowing excess water to drain freely from the pot.
  • Don’t leave the roots sitting in water, as consistently saturated soil can lead to root problems.
  • During darker, cooler months, allow the mix to dry a little further before watering again.
  • An airy, chunky aroid mix works particularly well, giving the roots both moisture and plenty of oxygen.

🌫️ Humidity

  • Aim for around 60% or higher if you can, particularly while the plant is actively growing.
  • Good humidity helps the larger leaves unfurl cleanly and can reduce crispy edges on the more delicate variegated sections.
  • A humidifier is useful if your home becomes very dry during winter.
  • Keep it away from the direct blast of radiators and cold draughts.
  • Good airflow is still important — humid doesn’t mean stagnant.

🍽️ Feeding

  • Feed during active growth in spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser.
  • Dilute the fertiliser according to the product instructions rather than giving it a stronger dose.
  • Feeding approximately once a month is a sensible starting point.
  • Reduce or stop feeding through the darker winter months when growth naturally slows.
  • Avoid overfeeding in an attempt to push variegated growth faster; steady growth is what we’re after.

🌱 Quick Tips

  • Give it a moss pole, coir pole or other sturdy support so it can climb.
  • Keep the growing mix airy and free-draining.
  • Clean the leaves gently from time to time so you can actually appreciate all that minty patterning.
  • Watch new leaves as they develop — the variegation can be wonderfully unpredictable.
  • Keep an eye out for pests, particularly around new growth and leaf undersides.
  • Don’t panic if growth is a little slower than a completely green Monstera; variegated foliage has less chlorophyll available for photosynthesis.

💡 Big Plant Lad Wisdom

This is one of those plants where the newest leaf becomes the main event. You’ll find yourself checking it every morning to see how much mint has appeared this time — and somehow that becomes completely reasonable. 🌿✨.
