🌿 Hoya polyneura Care Guide

The Hoya polyneura is better known by many collectors as the “Fishtail Hoya,” and it’s easy to see why. Its slender leaves are etched with delicate dark veins that resemble the tail of a fish, giving the entire plant a wonderfully distinctive look. As the vines grow longer, they drape elegantly from hanging pots or can be trained to climb, creating a graceful display that only becomes more impressive with age. Mature plants may also reward your patience with clusters of  scented flowers.

☀️ Light

  • Enjoys plenty of bright, filtered natural light.
  • Gentle morning sunshine is ideal, but avoid strong afternoon rays.
  • Too little light can slow growth and reduce the chance of flowering.
  • Keep lighting consistent to encourage healthy vines.

💧 Water

  • Water thoroughly once around the top third of the soil has dried.
  • Avoid keeping the soil constantly wet.
  • A free-draining mix helps keep the roots healthy.
  • Reduce watering during the cooler months when growth slows naturally.

🌫️ Humidity

  • Appreciates moderate to high humidity.
  • Extra humidity supports healthy new leaves and steady vine growth.
  • Good airflow is equally important, especially in more humid environments.
  • Keep away from cold draughts and direct heat sources.

🍽️ Feeding

  • Feed every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer.
  • Use a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength.
  • Pause feeding over winter until active growth begins again.

🌱 Quick Tips

  • 🌿 Grow in a bright spot with filtered natural light.
  • 💧 Allow part of the soil to dry before watering.
  • 🌫️ Moderate to high humidity encourages lush growth.
  • 🍽️ Feed regularly during the growing season.
  • 🌱 Leave flower spurs in place after blooming, as they can flower again.
