🌿 Chlorophytum Princess Marble Care Guide
Chlorophytum ‘Princess Marble’ is a lovely twist on the classic spider plant, bringing slender, arching foliage with crisp green-and-white variegation. It has that wonderfully relaxed spider plant growth habit, gradually producing a fuller clump and, when happy, little plantlets along its stems.
It’s a great one for shelves, plant stands or hanging from a spot where those arching leaves can properly spill out. Give it good light and a little consistency, and it will reward you with plenty of fresh growth.
☀️ Light
- Give it plenty of bright, filtered light to keep the white variegation looking fresh.
- Gentle morning sunshine is absolutely fine and can help it grow strongly.
- Protect it from intense midday or afternoon sun through glass, as this can scorch the leaves.
- If it’s kept too far from a window, growth can become slower and the variegation may be less pronounced.
💧 Water
- Water when the top few centimetres of the soil have dried out.
- Give the plant a thorough drink, allowing excess water to drain away freely.
- Avoid leaving the pot sitting in water, particularly during the cooler months.
- Spider plants can be sensitive to a build-up of salts and minerals, so using filtered or rainwater can be helpful if your tap water is particularly hard.
- Reduce watering during winter when growth naturally slows.
🌫️ Humidity
- Average household humidity is generally perfectly workable.
- It will appreciate a little extra moisture in the air during very dry conditions, particularly if the heating is on.
- Keep it away from radiators and other sources of hot, dry air.
- There’s no need to turn your home into a rainforest—steady conditions are more useful than constantly misting the leaves.
🍽️ Feeding
- Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced, diluted houseplant fertiliser.
- Avoid overfeeding; too much fertiliser can lead to brown leaf tips and a build-up of salts in the soil.
- Reduce or stop feeding through autumn and winter when the plant is growing more slowly.
🌱 Quick Tips
- Rotate the plant occasionally so it grows evenly towards the light.
- Brown leaf tips can be linked to dry soil, low humidity, or mineral and fertiliser build-up.
- Remove completely dried or damaged leaves with clean scissors.
- Spider plants can become nicely full over time, so don’t be too quick to split a healthy clump.
- Those little spider plantlets are part of the fun—once they appear, you’ll know your plant is settling in nicely.
- Make sure your pot has drainage. Chlorophytum really doesn’t enjoy sitting with permanently wet roots.
💡 Big Plant Lad Wisdom
This is one of those plants that starts off looking politely well behaved… then suddenly you notice it’s producing babies everywhere and you’ve accidentally started a spider plant nursery.
