🌿 Cereus Spiral Cactus Care Guide
The Cereus spiral cactus brings a little architectural drama to a plant collection. Its upright, ribbed stem twists as it grows, creating that unmistakable spiral form. It’s a sun-loving cactus that prefers a drier root system, plenty of light and a potting mix that drains freely.
☀️ Light
Provide plenty of bright light, ideally with several hours of sunshine.
Introduce stronger direct sunlight gradually to prevent scorching.
A bright south- or west-facing window can work well.
💧 Water
Allow the growing mix to dry out completely between waterings.
Water thoroughly, then drain the pot.
Water much less frequently during winter, especially in cool conditions.
🌫️ Humidity
Prefers ordinary household humidity and dry conditions around its roots.
No misting is needed.
Ensure good airflow and avoid persistently damp compost.
🍽️ Feeding
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a cactus fertiliser.
Use a diluted feed rather than a strong dose.
Stop feeding during the dormant winter period.
🌱 Quick Tips
Use a gritty cactus mix with excellent drainage.
Choose a pot with drainage holes.
Rotate the pot occasionally for balanced growth.
Check that the plant receives enough light to maintain firm, healthy growth.
💡 Big Plant Lad Wisdom
A spiral cactus looks like someone has taken a perfectly ordinary cactus and given it a twist. It’s a slow-growing character, which makes every new bit of growth worth noticing. 🌿✨
