🌿 Begonia Safari Care Guide
Begonia Safari brings that unmistakable Begonia character — textured foliage, plenty of detail and a plant that rewards you for paying attention to its growing conditions. Like many cultivated Begonias, it prefers a bright but sheltered position, good humidity and a root environment that doesn’t stay saturated.
The trick is finding that comfortable middle ground: enough moisture to keep growth moving, but plenty of drainage and airflow around the roots.
☀️ Light
- Give it bright, indirect or filtered light.
- Gentle morning sunshine can be suitable, but shield the foliage from harsh afternoon rays.
- Avoid very dark corners, as this can lead to weaker, stretched growth.
- A stable position is preferable to constantly moving it around.
💧 Water
- Water when the upper layer of soil has started to dry.
- Keep some moisture available to the roots during active growth, but never leave the plant sitting in water.
- Water the soil rather than repeatedly soaking the foliage.
- Allow the plant to drain properly after watering.
- Check more frequently during warm, bright periods when the mix will dry faster.
🌫️ Humidity
- Begonia Safari appreciates moderate to higher humidity.
- Around 50–70% can be a useful range indoors.
- Good airflow is particularly important when humidity is high.
- Avoid placing the plant somewhere where condensation remains on the foliage for long periods.
🍽️ Feeding
- Feed during spring and summer while new growth is appearing.
- Use a balanced fertiliser at half strength.
- Feeding every few weeks is usually sufficient.
- Reduce feeding through winter when growth naturally slows.
🌱 Quick Tips
- Use a light, airy mix with good drainage.
- Avoid allowing the soil to become bone dry for prolonged periods.
- Keep the leaves away from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes.
- Remove damaged or ageing leaves cleanly to keep the plant tidy.
- Give it room around the foliage rather than packing it tightly between other plants.
💡 Big Plant Lad Wisdom
Begonias have a funny way of convincing you that you’re only going to have one. Then you see another leaf pattern, another colour and suddenly you’re rearranging the plant shelf. 🌿✨
